Visa Information

Cape Verde Visa for Nigerian Citizens

Nigerian Citizens do not need a visa for Cape Verde. Entry is visa-free for up to 90 days, and the only formality is the airport security tax that every air arrival pays regardless of nationality: 3,400 escudos, about 34 US dollars, registered and paid through the EASE portal. Flights arrive at Praia. The 90 day allowance comes from ECOWAS free movement rather than a bilateral deal, and it is three times what European and American visitors get. It applies to ECOWAS nationals generally, not to Nigeria specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Nigerian citizens need a visa for Cape Verde?

No. Nigerian Citizens enter visa-free for up to 90 days. The only requirement is EASE registration and the airport security tax of 3,400 escudos, about 34 US dollars, which applies to every air arrival whatever their nationality.

How long can Nigerian citizens stay in Cape Verde?

Up to 90 days without a visa. Extensions of a similar length can be requested from immigration in Praia, Mindelo, Espargos or Sal Rei before the initial period runs out. Our Cape Verde visa page covers the extension process.

How do Nigerian travellers get to Cape Verde?

No nonstop service exists. Royal Air Maroc routes Lagos and Abuja to Praia through Casablanca, and connections through Dakar have operated on the short hop across to Praia.

Is there a Cape Verde embassy to deal with?

Cape Verde maintains an embassy in Abuja, and Nigeria is represented in Praia.

What still has to be done before flying?

Register on the EASE portal and pay the security tax, ideally several days ahead rather than on the day. Keep the confirmation available offline: it is checked at departure and again on arrival.
