Nanyuki

The Laikipia Stopover

Practical stopover town: fuel up, stock up, and head to the bush

Nanyuki is the main stopover town for travelers heading to Mount Kenya, Laikipia's wildlife conservancies, and Ol Pejeta. Most visitors pass through rather than stay, stopping for supplies, a meal, or a quick photo at the equator crossing before continuing to their safari lodges or climbing expeditions. The town itself is functional rather than charming, but its location makes it indispensable: it's the closest major town to Mount Kenya's climbing routes, the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy (home to the last northern white rhinos), and the numerous private conservancies that make Laikipia one of Kenya's top wildlife destinations. With banks, supermarkets, and reliable restaurants, Nanyuki provides everything travelers need before heading into the bush.
